Family times in Statesville

We arrived in Statesville after choosing the wrong entrance to I-26 and heading east instead of west. (Yes, we had to head west first, then east.) Oh well, not our first error and certainly not our last!

Our niece and her husband (Tammy and Paul) have been super hosts; they rolled out the cement carpet into their large yard and let us park in the driveway while using their water and electricity.  How can we ever thank you? Come and see us during Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque, and we will return the favor.

Our first dinner was scrumptious!  We enjoyed a shrimp/corn/sausage/potato boil.  Yummy!

Unfortunately, one member of our family did not fare so well.  Tammy's dogs greeted Zoey with enthusiasm ... perhaps a little too much on Sandy's part. The Alpha female in her took possession, and she grabbed Zoey around her neck and wouldn't let go.  The guys (Bruce and Paul) came to the rescue but Zoey must have been nicked enough to penetrate the skin and cause infection.  We rushed to the vet who administered some antibiotics and pain medicine.  We had to go back two days later because the infection had spread.  As I write this today (June 19th), the cut is healing and the stitches will come out in Virginia Beach.  This was just an unfortunate incident ... life happens... and all is well.

'After' with tube out and hole closing

Zoey today looking pretty good!  She is ready for her next adventure!
