BIG Totten Reunion

If you've been following my blog, you know that we celebrated a small Totten family reunion in Virginia Beach in late June.  That reunion was comprised of the siblings (and their families) of Buford (Jim) and Vera (Ingersoll) Totten.

On Sunday, September 7th we attended the BIG Totten reunion.  This reunion was comprised of families of Bruce's grandpa and grandma. The business meeting was conducted by Mike, and he did a swell job.  He has also done some investigative work on the Totten family through Ancestory.com.

After the business meeting, a Chinese auction was conducted.  Bruce bought a lot of tickets (the money goes into the Totten family coffers) so I had a good chance of winning one of the items I coveted.  I bet he's sorry he bought so many!  And, yes, it is stuff, and goes against my newfound spirit of "no more senseless" stuff, but it's so me!!  (And it is practical ... it is a bank.)  And better than anything else, it was given to Aunt Betty who donated it to the auction!!!

Jenny Joseph’s “When I Am An Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple”

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I’m tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people’s gardens
And learn to spit.
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

Here are various pictures taken of the entire group.  I wish I knew if I have a panoramic choice on my phone so I could have used it.  I hope I got a good shot of most.  And I'm afraid I don't know the names of many of the folks here.
