How did it get to be September??

It's hard to believe that it's September already and Bruce's birthday is tomorrow (September 5th). Happy birthday to him and to Zena (Bill's mom), too.

2011

We spent Labor day at another campground!  Our niece, Cheri, owns a 5th-wheel, 10-year old Montana, and she invited us for the afternoon.  She is in a park closer to Lake Ontario.  It's a KOA kampground and very nice.  She gave me the grand tour of her place; it's a very well-laid out 'home'.  She even has an oven.

We shared her company and the company of her son Andrew and her folks, Bruce's brother Neal and wife Bev.  We were also celebrating their 53rd wedding anniversary!  Now that's a long time.

It's a Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head theme!
And a chocolate angel food cake!

Andrew used his imagination and made Potato Head carrot cake cupcakes

won't let me take pictures of her; this is one from a while back ...

Cheri and Andrew, 2003

We enjoyed the ride to Cheri's.  Just that morning, I discovered a great website - Roadside America - where you can type in the place that you are going to and find out if there is anything special that the location is noted for.  So I looked up Medina, NY, and Bruce and I got to see the only road that goes under the Erie Canal.  Of course I took pictures!  What a great site!  You can bet that from now on, I will be investigating that web site before we take off so we can truly get a flavor of the area and have so much more to remember about our trips!

It was dripping water as we went through.

We had a rainy, gloomy Tuesday and since Bruce wasn't able to work at the tree farm (the tractor had a flat tire) we got groceries and took a ride to one of the local fruit stands. Just love those stands!  This one was a little more commercialized than I like, and had a stunning display of flowers out front, but we were able to get a spaghetti squash for 50 cents, pickling cucumbers, zucchini and yellow squash, peaches and (ta-da) famous New York state apples! We both forgot the name of the kind we bought, and I didn't see it on the website, but they sure are good.  If they are picking apples here, you know that fall is in the air.  We hope to get some apple cider and cake doughnuts, too!

The fruit stand was not far from the house of friends where we enjoyed so many great times together.  Do you know who you are?
