The RV

You know what they say about being used … you don’t know what you’re getting.  Unfortunately, that statement is very true regarding our Beaver motorhome.

Now, I’m not saying we regret the purchase.  Bruce shopped and shopped looking specifically for this brand; he had done his research and discovered so many good things about it.  But, like many other manufacturers, during the recession a few years’ back, they either went “belly up” or got bought out by another company.

We’ve had some issues … some Bruce has fixed, some he can’t.  Our entire entertainment center (two T.V.’s, receiver, DVD/VCR player/ satellite; Direct TV box) did not work.  We figured that early on because of the improvements that have been made (HD) since 2003.  We managed without, but while Bruce was perusing the Costco ad, he discovered an excellent buy on 24” LDC Samsung Monitors/TV’s.  We purchased two, had them sent to his brother, and after some adjustments made, we now have TV.  This campsite does provide free cable (Time Warner) so we no longer miss out on the happenings of the world and the nation.

We’ve had issues with all three slide-outs leaking; we like to tell folks that in New Mexico this wouldn’t have been an issue, but that is certainly not the case in the east.  Bruce calked the one and that seemed to help.  He plans to check out the others soon.  For now, we push the button and bring the slides in whenever it rains or looks like rain.  Yes, it’s a pain!

We also seem to be experiencing problems with our hot water system.  Bruce will have to take the RV to a qualified representative for that.  For now, I boil water in the microwave to do dishes and the water is hot enough for a quick shower.  Southwoods also has adequate shower facilities if need be.

Even with all the little problems, I still love this lifestyle.  I am constantly “inventing” my own systems for storage and would love to be able to design my own!  I have great ideas and know what I want.  But for now, all is good.

One final note: we went to Camping World here inChurchville, New York (right down the road) to make some purchases and decided to go out into the used RV lot to see what was there.  Bruce was really excited to find a Monaco motorhome and even got to talk to the seller.  I found a brand of RV that I fell in love with.  It’s called a “See Ya” by Alfa.  This company also went out of business.  It has the most unique floor plan ever, and I've included a link about the founder and the unique qualities and features it has.  I think it rocks!  Here’s a link.  IF I ever was able to trade, this is what I would want!
