On
the weekend of September 20th and 21st, we had some quality time
with family.
Saturday
found us in Livonia near Conesus Lake visiting Bruce’s cousin June. It was great so see pictures of her family
and hear about what’s been happening to all of them in the last few years. She joined us on a memory-laden trip around
the lake, and then we all dined together at Applebee’s. We hope to be able to visit her in Florida next
year.
We
took a little side trip on our way home to the Mt. Morris Dam. Neither one of us ever remember visiting this
when we lived in New York so we became tourists!
Sunday
found us visiting with Aunt Dottie
again. This time we went prepared with
my laptop so we could show her lots and lots of pictures. And, we got to visit with my cousin Pat and her husband Stan. We have not seen them
in 10 years, and unfortunately, in those 10 years, my cousin Pat’s health has deteriorated. I was aware that she had contracted Parkinson’s
disease but was not aware (until recently) that she was now residing in an
Assisted Living complex that adjoins my aunts Independent Living facility. Stan
had been caring for her at home, but it became impossible for him to continue to
do so.
We
shared pictures of our children and grandchildren and talked a bit about our
youth and the good times that we had as cousins. When it comes to the cousins department, Bruce
has over 100 of them, but I only had 5, and that figure was reduced by one 2
years ago when I lost my younger cousin Carol. Having a chance to visit with Pat was pretty special to me! I’m still trying to get to see her brothers.
