"One Day at a Time, 2015” ….. Georgia ….. (December 22 - 27) ….. Walkabout Camp & RV Park, Woodbine, GA
December 23, 2015 – Groomed and pretty! and visiting St. Marys
We took Zoey to the Laurel Oaks Animal Hospital around 9:30. They were going to call us when she was finished. We decided to go and investigate the town of St. Marys. Ever since I read the book “Where the River Ends” by Charles Martin, I have wanted to see this town. This is one of my top ten books! It features a husband and wife who are on a mission – to travel down the St. Marys River to the ocean – before she dies from cancer. She has a list of 10 things that she would like to accomplish. I have read it twice and have cried buckets each time.
St. Marys was everything that I wanted it to be! We had the absolute best time wandering up and down the streets looking at the old homes and shops decorated for Christmas. I just took picture after picture. We decided to share a sandwich at ………. And besides it being an excellent sandwich, Felicia, one of the owners, told us about St. Marys, the history, and her story. (She was born there; left home after school; married; lost her husband; decided to regroup and go back “home;” and met her high school sweetheart (who was divorced); and married. She told me that Charles Martin, the author, had done a book signing at a restaurant in town. We also met Lee, one of the owners of the Peacemaker.

Just a pretty piece of driftwood ..... if i could have figured out how to get it out of the mud and into the car without Bruce finding out, I would have done it!! My seashell collection would have looked nice with it.

Do you see the heart? The bird? Bigfoot? Little foot? Cowboy hat? HIgh heel?
Docked at St. Marys at the Intracoastal Gateway property stood the Peacemaker - an awesome 158-foot beauty with a 33-foot beam, 10,600 square feet of sails on a three masted tall ship.

This is Lee. He is one of about 20 crew members on the ship.

Poked around in a little store. Somehow the Elf on the Shelf ended up in the Nativity scene!
|
Persimmons ???

Very helpful. Yes, I forgot her name! She did tell us not to miss Savannah. Unfortunately, we did. We went to Jekyyl Island instead - probably not the best choice we made but still fun (later post).

Never saw this sign in a restroom before but oh, so, cute!!
These murals were inside this store. Unfortunately many were covered up by antiques.

Love the Spanish Moss
I have wanted to poke around in a cemetery since we started. They are so steeped in history. This seemed like the appropriate place to do so. This is the Oak Grove Cemetery.
It was getting late, and we still hadn’t heard that Zoey was ready so we decided to go back to the groomer/vet office. She still wasn’t quite done!! This gal did an excellent job but I sure hope she had other doggie clients or she’ll never make any money! Zoey looked refreshed, smelled clean, and sported a holiday bandana. And, now, she’s much cooler!!
