August 4– Day 20

We were a little disappointed in this CG.  It was supposed to be a "resort" but it didn't look like one.  There were signs up in the bathrooms/showers not to use your hair dryer or the lights would go off.   It took us three different spots to find a "level" one and as you can see by the pictures below, it wasn't too level.  I had to use the red stool to climb onto the white stool to reach the steps and I was petrified that the RV was going to fall off the jacks!  But ... it was free!!

We had been a little bit lazy - it’s so nice to just relax – but we decided to venture down to Baddeck today.  We stopped in at the Visitor Center to get a bunch more literature and then walked up and down the streets.  We discovered that the Bras d'Or Yacht Club was holding its annual Baddeck Regatta.  We walked down by the water and saw some activity with some small sailboats.  We then spied the home of Alexander Graham Bell but neither one of us was interested in taking a tour.

As you can see, it didn't look like the weather was going to cooperate, but it never did rain.

This is Kidston Island.

Some of the scenery around town ....

August 5 - Day 21

We had been waiting to drive the Cabot Trail because every morning that we woke up, it was a bit foggy and cloudy.  We didn’t want to drive it and not see anything.  This was the most suggested tourist thing that we had emphatically told to do.  So even though it started out rather gloomy, we decided to go today.  Needless to say, (a.) it never really cleared up, and (b.) we were a bit disappointed.  True, we never took a hike or a swim; we just drove.  We had been told it would take 6-8 hours and since we had Zoey with us, we figured we had better just keep going.  Plus since the blower for the air conditioner had not been fixed yet, the “cool” air was still billowing around my feet and legs – even with a blanket over them.  We had a nice day; it just wasn’t all we thought it was going to be.  Here is a link to more pictures of the trail – things we probably didn’t see due to the weather!

Went through this area on the way to the national park.

I believe the next set of pictures was taken near South Harbor or Cape North, near the top of the park.

That little boat was taking a bunch of tourists out for whale watching.

We stopped in Neils Harbour to eat our PB&J sandwiches.  I noticed on the map they had given us that it was the last place to buy gasoline and since Bruce had also been reading the map, I thought he saw that, too.

However, he must not have because he didn't fill up and we still had over 100 miles to go.

I glanced over at the gas gauge as we drove, and drove, and drove, and this is what I saw.  The infamous orange light was on!

Needless to say, we were all quite relieved to finally get back to some civilization and I think we literally coasted into the gas station in Baddeck!
