"One Day at a Time, 2015" .... goodbye USA ....

"One Day at a Time, 2015" ....goodbye USA ....

June 28th – July 15th

(Remember, links are underlined and mostly in Red.)

It’s hard to believe that we have been here in New York at Southwoods RV Resort since May 6th, and our time is almost over.  We are really looking forward, however, to getting this RV journey starting.  I have been telling people that I don’t really feel like we have been “true” RVing yet since both years we one-nighted it to get here, “camped” while Bruce worked, then one-nighted it back home.  I regard Thursday July 16th as our official “Retired and RVing, almost full-time!” starting date. (Bruce thinks I'm nuts!)

We grocery shopped, met with our friends Harry and Sylvia to finish off the bottle of wine we started, had Bruce’s cousin Joanie (and her two grandchildren) over, and enjoyed dinner out with Dan and Carol, celebrating our 50th anniversaries together, treated Dave and Pat to ice cream at my favorite ice cream shop, Blondie’s in Batavia - thanks to Cheri’s gift certificate - and saw Aunt Dottie one last time.

Watching the farmers in Byron harvest the peas.

Cousin Joanie and her grandson

Met Eugene and Linda from Alberta, Canada, and their little R-Pod.  Everything you need is contained in that little RV, including a Queen-sized bed.  Wish we could have chatted longer.

The great folks at Blondie's; be sure and stop for the biggest ice cream for the smallest price ever!!

This is a medium!!  I should have knelt down to take the picture so you could see just how big it was.  (Yup, I ate every bite!!)

Dan and Carol invited us to help them spend their gift certificate and celebrate 50 years of marriage; their anniversary was May 1st, ours will be in August.

Aunt Dottie - 95 years young!

She always tells Bruce that she used to be over 5 foot tall.  I think she's shrunk a little!

We enjoyed the 4th of July "doings" at Southwoods RV Park.  The golf cart/bicycle parade was fun to watch and even more fun was watching our friend Dave operate his "toy" that takes videos.  Y'all know how much Bruce and I enjoy music and dancing and we lived up to our reputations by attending - and dancing - at the pavilion that evening.

Getting ready for the parade.

Here comes the parade!

Watch for David's Toy!

(Here is a link to the video that David was shooting; you can just see me at one point shooting my video and you can see our RV and car.)  https://youtu.be/IeidSkt_Nj0

Great way to end the evening!

We left Southwoods on Monday, July 6th and moved to Bass Lake in Parish, NY.  This is an RV campground on our "free" list so that was nice!  We enjoyed our week there.  We did what we usually do when we take the car off the trailer and park for a while .... go out and see "the lay of the land."  We rode around Oneida Lake, stopping at the amusement park at Sylvan Beach.  On our day-trip to Oswego Lake, we ran into a Paddle Festival (folks in kayaks race from a creek in Fulton, NY to the harbor at Oswego.  There were food trucks, people and live music.  I read and spent a couple of days planning our Canadian venture.

Ride around Oneida Lake
(the rain and clouds stayed with us all the way!)

Sylvan Beach - not too busy in the rain

Take a ride..........

Not too much fun when there's just two of you!

Round and round you go!

Beautiful potted plants in the towns.  Just a precursor for Canada, though.

You can see Nine-Mile Point in this picture.

This is Chris our bartender; great personality!

Beer and Kettle Popcorn

Wanted to try the $1.00 hot dog but we had already had our PB&J sandwiches and popcorn.

Live music!  And my hubby even got invited to dance!!

I wanted to show my Southwestern friends what vehicles in New York state look like due to the winter salt on the roads.
When we were getting diesel, we saw this racing boat in the parking lot.

Sometimes the diesel doesn't contain "def" so we have to purchase separately.

On July 14th, we moved to Birch Haven Campground at the 1000 Islands.  While there, Barry visited us one afternoon.  It was great to catch up with him.  Shelly came to our rescue when our mail from Florida didn't arrive in time; the manager at the campground is going to send it to her, she will sort it for us, and be in touch with anything that is urgent.
