"One Day at a Time, 2015" ..... Real time Update

"One Day at a Time, 2015" ..... Real time Update

Our “adventure” at Southern Connecticut Freightliner finally came to an end on Tuesday, September 22.

Our RV’s was scheduled for work on Friday, September 18th.  Since we all had to vacate, Bruce and I took a ride toward New Haven, and Zoey went to the beauty parlor!  When we returned, we discovered that more work was needed.

On Saturday, our rig went into the bay right at 7 a.m., and off all three of us went.  This time we headed northeast to Guilford where we happened upon a parade and fair (more about that in a later post).  About 2:15 we received a call to return to the dealership as they had found the problem.

We returned to find our RV still in the bay, and the dealership closing for the day.  We had about 25 minutes to gather what we needed for our stay in a motel since the rig was not totally together.  Luckily there was a Motel 6 nearby (they accept pets) so we hunkered into the room for Saturday and Sunday.

And why did our Check Engine light come on again and shut us down?  Unfortunately for us, it was not a mechanical problem (which would have been covered under the warranty) but instead, the technician found a small rag in the fuel tank!!

That's the offending rag!  The technician who dug it out of the tank said it looked like it had been in there for a long time!

We spent the rest of the weekend wondering just who was going to pay for what!

We found out on Monday.  Even though we had the support of the technicians and staff at Southern Connecticut Freightliner, the end result was not totally in our favor.  Freightliner Corporate agreed to pay ½ the bill; in actuality, they probably didn’t have to pay anything, but since their employee at the hotline had called for the tow, they took that into consideration.  After going back and forth a bit, and pleading our case a little more (with no luck!), we settled on their offer.

One highlight of our stay at Freightliner was meeting fellow RV’ers Carl and Terri from Washington State.  Their 2014 Allegro RV had broken down with electrical problems, and they were sharing the parking lot experience with us!

Bruce had intended to take our rig out for a test drive on Tuesday, but we decided to just head out for New York state and if we had troubles, we would return.  We bought some Dunkin’ Donuts for the Freightliner crew, thanked them for their work, and off we went.

We arrived at Rondout Resort in Accord, NY (Hudson Valley, Catskills area) in the afternoon of the 22nd.  It is one of our “free” campgrounds under our CRA membership that we purchased in March.  We only have to pay for our cable and 50 amp electricity.  We enjoyed the first few days so much, we asked if we could extend our stay for a month.  That was okay by them so for $112, we have a home until October 20th.

We have to recoup that ½ dollar amount somehow!!!

PS

On Friday, Bruce and I put our heads together and composed an email to send to Good Sam Roadside Assistance to see if they would be willing to pay ½ towards the towing fee of $3,000 that was an absolutely ridiculous, inflated amount charged by the towing company.  We explained the circumstances of our phone call to them for help (as detailed in my previous post).  About an hour later, we received a phone call from them.  They agreed to pay their ½ and threw in $100.00 for us to go out and have a nice dinner!  They apologized profusely for what had taken place.  We were impressed by their customer service and very, very thankful.
