November 11

Decided that it was about time to take advantage of some of the perks at this CG.  It seems like when we have a short stay, there is a nice pool, and if we have a longer stay so as to take advantage of the amenities, there aren't any!  I haven't been swimming in a pool since Canada and when I found out this place had an indoor heated pool and hot tub, I knew it was time.

Up I headed to the pool area, and as you can see by the picture, there is absolutely no one there but me!  I unrolled the solar cover, and swam (if you know me you know I really can't swim per se), floated, marched, walked and just had a good time - all by myself!

Then I enjoyed the hot tub - all by myself - for a 1/2 hour.  So refreshing but felt a bit nippy when I hit the outside air.

This CG holds 400 sites, and I can't even imagine what it is like around here in the summer.  I'm sure that the RVs/5ers/TT are packed in like sardines.  This is what it looks like now:

And in the afternoon, I walk the beach looking for seashells.

November 12 and 13

While Bruce was busy outside (loving it since he's missed working !!!) washing first the car and then the RV.  That took about a day and a 1/2 by itself.  He said the roof was dirty and sticky with pine from our stay at Cornwall KOA in PEI and then Pinewood in Massachusetts.  I was inside doing laundry, washing the inside windows and catching up in this blog.

November 14

Decided we hadn't taken a drive in some time so off we headed to the north of us to the town of Manteo located on the island of Roanoke.  If you remember your history (and mine was too fuzzy so I had to refresh it), Roanoke is called the Lost Colony because ...

In 1587, Englishman John White led more than 100 men, women and children in the first attempt to found a permanent English colony in the New World. The group settled on Roanoke Island, one of a chain of barrier islands now known as the Outer Banks, off the coast of North Carolina. Later that year, White headed back to England to bring more supplies, but England’s naval war with Spain would delay his return for nearly three years. When he finally arrived on Roanoke Island, on August 18, 1590, White found the colony abandoned and looted, with no trace of the settlers. Only two clues remained: The word “Croatoan” had been carved on a post and the letters “CRO” scratched into a tree trunk. Now, two separate teams of archaeologists say they have uncovered new evidence suggesting what may have happened to the inhabitants of the famed “Lost Colony.”

When John White, appointed by Sir Walter Raleigh as governor of Roanoke Colony, returned to England for more supplies in late 1587, he left behind his wife, his daughter and his infant granddaughter—Virginia Dare, the first child born in the New World to English parents—among the other settlers. Upon White’s return in 1590, he found no trace of his family or the other inhabitants of the abandoned colony. Over the centuries to come, archaeologists, historians and explorers would delve into the mystery of the “Lost Colony” of Roanoke, all failing to find definitive answers...

Our first stop was the Visitors Center and a mighty nice one at that!

Now Google was kind enough to take these three pictures that I took and turn it into a panoramic shot, but I'm not sure I know how to insert it here so try this link.

We followed the signs and walked around Festival Park.  We saw the Elizabeth II from a distance and didn't pay to see the museum or the ship inside.

Elizabeth II

There was a boardwalk thick with greenery that took you along the waterway  and lots of squirrels packing their cheeks full getting ready for the winter.

These boats were docked at a fancy hotel near downtown.

Izzy Girl was just coming in from a Saturday outing.

Interesting story how the lighthouse is built where the town's wastewater treatment plant once stood!

I wanted you to see where the high mark came to on the weather tower.

The gentleman at the Visitors Center had recommended this place so of course we  had to stop and sample the brew!

This is Daniel in the Brewery section.  We did not sit here but proceeded to the Cafe side.

Bruce said, "Let me take your picture by the roses," and if  you believe that, you don't know my husband!  I said, "here Bruce, take my camera and take my picture!"

And thanks to our friends at Shenandoah Resort and the Master Card they gave us, we enjoyed brews and a sandwich!

Can you read our choices?  Blonde, Red, Stout and Christmas.

This was the Hunter Wrap.  The French Fries were the absolute best I have ever had out.  I usually don't eat them, but not today.  I ate them and brought most of my sandwich back to RV.

We walked around a bit more after we ate and came to Kitty Hawk kites.  They have stores all over the island and a large one near us.

I want one of those whirly-gig things but Mr. Totten is all worried about where I'm going to store it!  Silly man!

While there, I ran into Jack Sparrow!

Here's the other side of the Brewery that I cut off in the other picture.

This shot was taken out the car window as Bruce speeds on homeward to our RV.  That's a crescent moon up there.
