October 8 - Ellenville, Stone Church

We drove through Ellenville and decided to go a bit further and see what there was to see.  As we were heading out of town on route 52, I saw a sign that pointed left that said "Stone Church."  We had no idea if it was the name of a little town or a street or was it indeed a stone church, but we decided to find out.

I'm so glad we did.  The church is called "Chapel of the Holy Name."  We pulled in and investigated.  The view through the stone arch was jaw dropping and I can image when the trees changed more color, it would be magnificent.

This post was in the front of the church. "May Peace Prevail on Earth" is written in different languages on each side.  It was hard to get a picture of the entire side because of the sun.

Look at the burl in this tree!

On our way back to Ellenville, we came upon  a turkey and a group of vultures.  The latter flew out at us and then each went to a different tree.  It was hard to get their picture.

I never got any pictures of the farm market (Barthel's) where we stopped and bought apples, squash, parsnips, cauliflower, onions, a potato, and peppers and got a taste of their apple cider.  Yum!!

Here is the owner and her son:
