August 27 – waiting it
out
We are eventually headed to Plymouth, Massachusetts, and as
you know, in order to get to Plymouth from Maine, one must go through Boston. We are going to be visiting one of Bruce’s cousins
that he has not seen in well over 40 years, and her words of advice re: Boston
were, “do not travel through Boston anytime past 2 p.m.” So even though we could have made the trip
from Bar Harbor to Boston in a day, I wanted to move us a little closer to
Boston so we could easily get through the city.
One of our “free” parks was situated in Old Orchard Beach, Maine so the
price was right and the distance would work, too.
When we woke up this morning, we immediately knew that our
Miss Zoey had suffered a relapse of some sort.
We could clearly see that she was in pain again and not herself. We felt terrible, partly because last night
we had run out of one of the pills that we were told she would be on for
life. We had tried to get that pill on
Monday from the vet in Bar Harbor but were not successful. Because we had a two-day reservation in Old
Orchard Beach, and another reservation after that, we had no choice but to
move.
We arrived at Wagon Wheel, Old Orchard Beach – a SunResort. It was very clean, had two
pools, a spa, a Rec hall, and something I’ve never seen before – a TV
Entertainment Pavilion. I guess they
show movies there. It could have been
fun. But it wasn’t. It’s not fun to watch your fur baby shake,
pant, breathe heavy, and just plain feel miserable.
We arrived in good time, parked the RV, unhitched the car,
and went looking for the veterinary clinic I had located via Google. After a consultation and several tests, the
veterinary wanted us to hospitalize Zoey there and start some of the same
procedures over again that she had had in Canada. We just couldn’t do it; the timing wouldn’t
allow it and I guess we were both hoping that she would snap out of it. Also, we couldn’t stay there. The veterinarian understood and was able to
give us a prescription for the pills that we needed. Walgreen’s had to order them special and it
would take a day so we went back to the RV and waited, trying to keep Zoey as
comfortable as possible. One interesting
item we did learn was that those Canadian prescriptions that we had tried to
use in Maine and were still carrying with us could NOT be filled here in the
US. It’s not allowed.
It was not a pleasant two nights there. It could have been if we had a healthy dog,
but we didn’t. I really don’t even
remember what we did the second day – went back and got the pills at Walgreen’s
and I did walk around and take some pictures of the CG and hope that someday we
might get a chance to go back there.
