"One Day at a Time, 2015” ….. Branford, Connecticut (Freightliner) ..... (September 14 - 21) …..September 19 - Who doesn't love a Parade?

Saturday, September 19 - One of our standard rides turns into anything but standard!!

The rig had to be in the shop at 7 a.m. on Saturday morning since the dealership closed at 3 p.m.  We took Zoey with us and started our journey on Route 146, a scenic highway leading from Branford to Guildford.  Oh how I wish I had thought to take a picture of the one underpass we came to.  It was right on a very sharp curve and was made for one car. It looked something like this:

So, we eventually get to Guilford.  It has a town square and we noticed that three of the four roads around the square had their parking spots blocked off.  I said to Bruce, "Something's going on."  We parked in a "Choice" spot on the one side that you could park on, and I went up to a lady who was sitting on a park bench and asked her if she lived here.  She said, "Yes."  I said, "Would you know what is going on today?"  She said, "the annual Guilford Citizens Day Parade."  Oh my gosh, we did it again.  We happened upon a happening!!  We decided to stay and take in the parade.  And it wasn't just a parade!  It was followed by the Fair.

Oh. What. Fun!!

Alison

Her friend - I think it was Caroline

While we waited for the parade to start, I walked around the town park.  The plaques on the light poles gave a lot of information.

This is Carol.  She was from somewhere in the South and was visiting her daughter who was about to give birth to their third grandchild any time.  Carol had her twin grandsons with her.  They were being boys, for sure, messing around, trying to climb the trees, etc.  While she was talking to me, out of the corner of my eye I saw the one pull down his pants and pee.  I casually mentioned it to her and she just laughed and said, "Yes, boys will be boys."  It made me laugh, but then I wondered if they ever did that while they were out in a more public area.

I walked around a bit before the parade began taking pictures of some of the participants.

Before the parade I just happened to catch the local TV station taping an interview of some of the participant's.

You always have to have a vendor with all the goodies!

The parade begins! - Here's the Grand Marshall.

The theme of the parade this year was "Thanks for the Memories and Good Times."

Here's the Garden Club - beautiful plantings around town -

And the Friends of the Library - my friends for sure!

I thought this was a great way to do a class float.

Hey Neal - you should do this in the firemen parades

I just LOVE Fife and Drum Corps.

After the parade, we were going to go to the Fair, but Miss Zoey was pooped from all the festivities. So we drove down to the harbor area, and, as usual, saw some nice boats and barely saw a lighthouse.

We saw this building on our way back to our RV.  It reminded me of the Bart Prince house in Albuquerque.

About that time we got a phone call from the dealership telling us that they had found the problem!  We needed to get back before the dealership closed (at 3). The bad news was that our rig was not together, and we would have to stay in a motel for the weekend.  Great!  Just what we didn't want to do!

We got back, went into the rig and pulled together what we would need for a weekend - pj's, robes, slippers, toiletries, etc.  The first two motels that we tried didn't take dogs but the Motel 6 did.  We hunkered in.  We got to watch a recent movie since they had HBO.  Zoey didn't like staying in the room because there was no sofa so that her "Bubby" could sit next to her.  She had to stay on the floor!  (gasp!)
