August 12 – Day 28 –
Continuing our adventures in PEI
I have
to tell you, I am just WOWED by Prince Edward Island. This has to be my favorite spot so far on our
trip. Bruce says he’s 50/50 on here and
Nova Scotia.
I guess
one of the reasons that Bruce and I have been married almost 50 years is that
we are pretty much alike in what we like to do.
We both enjoy just getting into the car and driving/riding. You would think after hours driving the RV he
would want to rest from driving, but he is usually the first one to say, “Let’s
take a drive.” One other thing we agree
on is shopping. We know that we don’t
have a lot of room in which to store “stuff” nor do we want to spend our
dollars on “stuff” so we usually steer clear of shopping. We also don’t tend to eat out much, at least
not on this trip. We are trying this
full-time RV living this summer and NOT choosing to work as workampers
anywhere. We want to see if we can
afford it. So while we have enjoyed
lobster a couple of times (and ice cream !!), we mostly cook at home.
Today we
drove to the Central Coast on Route 2 until we got to the town of
Kensington. Then we headed north to Cabot
Beach Provencial Park. Then we wound our
way back to Cornwall where our RV is parked.
We stopped at a Tim Horton’s to buy a coffee to share, and before turning north, we spotted the Haunted Mansion. “It was built in 1890 by the eccentric Dr. Jack, an Englishman whose arrival in the small town of Kensington was almost as unusual as he. The mansion stands as a testament to his genius and his m madness. There are three frightening floors and a secret garden.”
We drive along Routes 104 and 105 passing by Indian River (home of the Indian River Festival) and St. Mary’s Church. We spied a dirt road that led directly to the ocean – didn’t have to pay to get into anything! We spent an hour just walking on the red dirt and enjoying the afternoon.
We found Cabot Beach Provincial Park and stopped to enjoy the beach and did some people watching. I was trying to listen to the instructor at the kayaking lesson as he illustrated how to kayak. We keep saying that we are going to do this but haven’t yet.
Here we are on a beach somewhere in PEI

On our way home we went by French River (“One of the most painted panoramas on Prince Edward Island, the tiny fishing village of French River exudes the rural charm and timeless beauty so desired by many of our Island`s guests. The surrounding hills provide a breathtaking view of New London Bay while the secluded beach is one of the Island`s most delightful locations. The nearby Cape Tryon Lighthouse, perched on the tip of spectacular sandstone cliffs, offers a mesmerizing seascape and accompanying view of the rolling farmlands that dominates the surrounding landscape. Home to a newly opened golf course, French River provides peace and quiet for guests and Islanders alike.), Stanley Bridge, Hope River, and New Glasgow where the Prince Edward Preserve Company and the The Toy Factory were located.

When we
arrived home, we found a very, very sick fur baby and immediately headed to the
closest veterinary clinic. After some
blood work and x-rays, we were sent home with medication for Miss Zoey. The vet cautioned us that she thought it best
to take her to the Atlantic Veterinary College, but we wanted to wait and see.
