"One Day at a Time, 2015” ….. Old Mystic, Connecticut …..(September 9 - 13) …..September 11 - Quick trip to Rhode Island
September 11 – 55 Google Miles – Travel Day to Rhode Island
Our granddaughter Mikayla had asked me a long time ago that if we ever got to Rhode Island, would we please pick up some coffee syrup for her so she could make coffee milk. Since we were so close, we did.
And, on our way to finding a place to purchase it, we came across the Culinary Arts Museum at Johnson & Wales University. What a coincidence - Mikayla just started culinary school in Santa Fe, and we found this school just because I was reading a map on our way to RI!!

I went into the museum while Bruce took a nap in the car. He missed out on a lot of fun. See the pictures below. The young man who sat at the desk up front was Brock. He is going to work at the Hilton Hotel as the Food and Beverage Director when he finishes school. That's his goal.

Mr. Potato Head was in the lobby!

How fitting to see a hot dog cart as our second stop for the day involved hot dogs! Stay tuned!! The first section of the museum was on Diners:

They even had a diner to walk through!
I loved reading these and wish the person who took the pictures didn't blur them. (me)
A short section on Tabasco
The next section had to do with Cooking in the American Kitchen - showed old kitchen implements and items from the past - some I had no idea what they were for.

I don't think this microwave would fit in my RV!!
And this section is on the Chef Jacket:

Bobby Flay
I have no idea who Charlie Trotter is; I took these because his last name was so close to ours (Totten, Trotter) (well, I thought so at the time anyway!)
Now
The Wedding Cake and other sweets!
Apparently there is a Culinary Olympics. I had not heard of that.
And to finish - a tavern from the years of the horse and buggy era and one a bit more modern.
There was a ice cream parlor but I guess I forgot to get a picture of it.
I'll end with everybody's favorite .....
Oh I wish I was a Oscar Meyer weiner
......
Go ahead, get that tune out of your head now. :)
While reading about the coffee syrup listed - as only available in Rhode Island - I found a link to other foods that were associated with the state. After leaving the university, we are on a quest to find Olneyville New York System, an iconic RI eatery established in 1946 and run by three generations of the Stevens family.

Yup, Guy was here!
When we went to leave, we saw the new car that the folks next to us were talking about. I thought it was nice. Bruce said it was a Mercedes Benz - pretty costly. And the folks were eating in the "dive" next to us!!!

So this is Coffee Syrup. It is delicious in milk. Tastes like a milkshake but not as thick.
Back at the campground, we got a glimpse of what's to come:
You can see the leaves are just starting to turn. You may be reading this in October but this was only September.
This is the pool at the campground.
